A five-year multiple-entry tourist visa system has been approved by the UAE Cabinet.

Sheikh Mohammend Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai announced on Monday 6th January 2020 on twitter that, the tourist visa for the UAE will be issued for 5 years from now hence forth.

Previously tourist visas were valid only for 30 to 90 days. But now tourists of any nationality can benefit from the 5 year visa scheme.

The new visa rule targets all nationalities and aims to entrench the UAE’s position as a key global tourist destination.


“The new tourist visa will be valid for 5 years and can be used for multiple entries and is open for all nationalities,” the Dubai Media Office wrote.

On his Twitter page, Sheikh Mohammed said: “Today, we have reviewed achievements made over the past year… we planned for 2020 to be a different year as it marks the year of preparation for the upcoming 50 years (2020: towards the next 50). It is the year in which we design the future of the UAE.”.

Sheikh Maktoum said on Twitter that the UAE currently attracts 21 million tourists a year.


Travellers from Africa, some South American countries, Arab states outside the Gulf, & European states from outside the European Union and former Soviet Union previously needed visas.
